CRICKET / U-19 inter-zonals
Combined City drub Tumkur
DH News Service, Bangalore:

K Goutham finished with match figures of nine for 76 and B V Shashank returned figures of eight for 88 as Combined City XI defeated Tumkur Zone by 57 runs in the only decisive game in the latest set of matches in the KSCA inter-zonal under-19 cricket tournament.

In a match totally dominated by the ball, Combined City — who enjoyed a 77-run lead on the first innings — declared their second innings closed at 158 for nine, and an overall advantage of 235 runs. It necessitated Tumkur to play out of their skins to score 236, particularly considering they had only managed 82 in their first essay.

Boosted by Abhilash Mahendrkar’s flamboyant 87 (99b, 13x4, 2x6), Tumkur gave a much better account of themselves in their second knock, but as a team, they once again failed to unravel the Shashank-Goutham mystery. Goutham was the chief destroyer with five for 43 while Shashank, who had taken five for 17 in the first innings, finished with three for 71 in the second knock.

Brief scores: Combined City XI: 159 all out in 51.4 overs and 158/9 decl in 40.1 overs (HM Mahesh 34 n.o., Raghav Dhiman 44; D Sanjoth 4-54, Raghuveer 2-33) bt Tumkur Zone: 82 all out in 41 overs and 178 all out in 45.4 overs (Anup Singh 45, Abhilash Mahendrkar 87; BV Shashank 3-71, K Goutham 5-43).

Bangalore Zone: 272 all out in 82.2 overs and 205/3 in 37 overs (Suraj Sampath 103 n.o., Sanjay Kumar 52, Davan D 31 n.o.; K Naveen 2-71) drew Raichur Zone: 196 all out in 69.3  overs (Praful Patel 25, Alok Desphande 28, Murali Krishna 45, Ibrahim 33 n.o.; D Anand 2-37, DV Aneesh 3-46, Pavan Deshpande 3-21).

Mangalore Zone: 315/9 in 90 overs drew President's XI: 190/8 in 78 overs (Karun Nair 26, Sunil N Raju 29, AG Mayank 40, GS Chiranjeevi 43, Arjun Hoysala 34 n.o.; Faroqui Zahoor 3-20, Daniel Sequiera 2-43).

Shimoga Zone: 119 all out in 35.3 overs and 115/8 in 39 overs (Vicky Kevin 27, N Ashok 26 n.o.; Md Salauddin 5-34) drew Mysore Zone: 219 all out in 69 overs (Adithya B Sagar 37; Maalik Ahmed 3-36, Krishna Murthy 2-23, Ashish SL 4-27).
