Federation of University and College Teachers Associations in Karnataka (FUCTAK) on Sunday staged a protest rally against the State government over non-acceptance of their demands. The rally was held from Central College to Banappa Park. Nearly 4,000 teachers across the State participated in the rally.
Association president Prof A M Narahari urged the government to re-deploy the teachers from bifurcated PU colleges to their respective degree colleges. “In case the workload is not available to the parent colleges, such teachers can be deputed to other aided or government colleges. The workload in subjects like Indian Constitution, Environmental Sciences and other progressive unaided subjects may be considered for expediting the process,” he said.
Prof Narahari said that there was a need to strengthen the grant-in-aid system. The progressive unaided subjects like computer science, bio-sciences, psychology, journalism combined with other subjects should be bought in grant-in-aid, he said.
The association also urged the government to fill up the vacant lecturers posts immediately. “Also, there is a need to protect the service conditions of unaided teachers,” he said.
The association demanded the placement proposal of the college teachers to be sanctioned based on the clarification issued by the UGC. The process should be complete within one month as more than 2,000 proposals are awaiting clearance for more than four years.
