The Karnataka Information Commission (KIC) has ruled that all the records held in the office of the sub-registrar in electronic format will be accessible under the RTI Act. However, Wills and general powers of attorney cannot be made public.
The ruling was made by the Chief Information Commission K K Misra while hearing a case of Veeresh Bellur of RTI Study Centre, Bangalore on August 29. It was learnt that Bellur had sought a soft copy of all documents registered in the Office of the Sub-Registrar, Nagarabhavi, Bangalore for the month of April 2007 in electronic format.
The PIO, however, refused to give the information saying that the disclosure of information would cause unwarranted invasion of privacy of the individual as the CD contained wills and GPAs.
Later, the applicant filed a complaint before the KIC against the PIO’s decision.
