NIFT planning verseas branch
Bangalore, dhns: The National Institute of Fashion Technology will soon open a branch in Mauritius or Dubai, said Union Textile Minister Shankersinh Vaghela, on Sunday. He was speaking at the Kufner-IACDE Summit 2007.
The world textile industry must consider India for establishing units or outsourcing as India has a youth force with knowledge of English and computing skills in addition to design and technology, Vaghela said. The total export of Indian textile industry is $19 billion and is expected to become $ 50 billion by 2010, he said. The country needs 50 more Integrated Textile Parks in addition to 30 parks that have already got clearance, he said.
However, he emphasised on acquisition of barren and unused land for setting up such industrial areas and not poor farmers’ land. The Centre is giving a subsidy of Rs 40 crore on Rs 100 crore investment in ITPs.
