Sri Krishna temples across Bangalore were decked up on Monday, as part of Sri Krishna Janmashtami that falls on Tuesday. Celebrated on the eighth day of the dark fortnight of Shravana Maasa, the main function will be organised in the midnight, when the Lord had arrived to eliminate the evil forces.
At the century-old Sri Venugopalakrishna Swamy Temple at Malleswaram, the Krishna Janmashtami would be celebrated in a grand way with a series of events. The priest of the temple said the activities would begin from 6 am with abhisheka to Lord Krishna. In the afternoon, the Mahabhisheka will be performed. In the evening, the temple will be opened for the Sarvatra Darshana of the main deity, who will be decorated in an attractive way. A musical programme has also been organised at 7 pm, where Ramyashree and M S Sagar will play keerthanas of eminent saints of South India on saxophone.
A grand Janmashtami will follow at the ISKCON Radha Krishna Mandir located in Harekrishna Hill, in the City, on Tuesday. The celebrations have already started on Monday, with special services to the Lord. People queued up at the ISKCON Temple to have a darshan from Monday. Jhulan Seva was offered to Makhan Krishna in the morning and in the evening. In the afternoon, prisoners were offered Krishna Prasadam.
Other events: The main function will take place, on Tuesday, where Radha Krishna-Chandra will be bathed with 108 kalasha abhisheka. Devotees will also offer Jhulan Seva for Makhan Krishna and Pushpanjali Seva. Music concerts have been organised.
At Parapana Agrahara Prison, a function has been organised by the Udupi Sri Krishna Temple at Basavanagudi. The Swamy of Puttige Mutt Sugunendra Sripada will give a special address to the prison inmates at 4 pm on Tuesday. Home Minister M P Prakash and ADGP (Prisons) S T Ramesh will participate in the programme. The Bhavatarini Ashrama at Vijayanagar has organised Bhajanasudhe on Tuesday at 5 pm.
