The villagers of Tayalur, Mulbagal taluk, locked up the primary health centre protesting against the delay in medical treatment that resulted in the death of a new born baby.
Radhamma of Kuppampalya near Tayalur was admitted to the health centre on Monday morning with delivery pains.
After delivery, the new born died due to negligence on the part of the medical staff as the case was handled by paramedical staff and the doctor was absent.
Negligence
The villagers alleged that if the doctor was present the child could have been saved and in protest they locked up the health centre. The head nurse who is a long serving staff in the centre also attends only once a week and signs the attendance register, they alleged.
Taluk panchayath president Venkatesh Gowda, Chief Election Officer Sanjappa visited the centre and assured that action would be taken to ensure the presence of doctor every day.
Taluk Panchayat member Channakeshava Gowda, T S Ramesh, GP president Narayanappa, vice-president Venkateshappa and others led the protest.
