Judicial commissions do not serve the purpose
Sir, It is reported that the Liberhann commission, probing into the Babri Masjid demolition, has been given the 41st extension after completion of 15 years of the incident. It may take some more years to complete the job and at the end, it will produce a voluminous report. The prevailing government at that time might shelve it on some grounds.
No useful purpose is served with this kind of probe and with the report taking such a long time. It only keeps the issue open and burning without solution or corrective action. We all know that many such reports are gathering dust without action.
Only a huge sum of the taxpayer’s money is spent on these commissions. Unless it is a time bound probe followed by immediate effective action, people will have no faith on such probes. It will look as if nobody is really interested or serious in the matter.

Polls imminent
Sir, It is an interesting development that the RSS is taking active interest in the change of guard in the State. This only shows there is lingering doubt about the handing over power to the BJP as per the earlier agreement. It's clear the BJP, goaded by the RSS, could go the whole hog and is determined to force a mid-term election, if the inevitable happens. The Congress (I) might not oblige the JD(S) leaders due to the fact that it was the JD(S) which upset the applecart of the Congress(I) - JD (S) coalition.

Indian chances
Sir, With the fine win over England on Sunday, India have entitled themselves to a realistic chance of lifting the Natwest trophy by winning the upcoming matches. Not only did India post a good score, but also sent the upper half of the England batting line up packing quickly for a small score on the board despite a miserable show of catching which has made them look like school children. Now with the series having come alive, Indians need to take butter off their fingers and palms and continue their good batting and bowling.

Controversial plant
Sir, The firm assertion of Chief Minister H D Kumarswamy that the government would go ahead with the coal based thermal power plant at Chamalapura, 30 kms, from Mysore, despite strong protests from the people, smacks of the undemocratic nature of the ruling classes. The danger posed by the thermal plant to the flora and fuana and to human existence has no bearing on their minds. It is high time the people of Mysore, raise their voice against the deadly power plant.

Gowda’s gimmicks
Sir, The decision of JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda to elevate Mirajuddin Patel as the state president of his party is politically motivated, as it has come at a crucial time ,when elections to the local bodies are scheduled. Keeping in mind the minorities votes, he might have taken this move. But it is sure to upset the BJP camp.
Both H D Kumaraswamy and Deve Gowda, have still kept the saffron party guessing, by way of changing their tone regularly. It remains to be seen, how long the JD(S) supremo can get along with dummy presidents.

Unfortunate ban
Sir, The British Church’s ban on yoga calling it anti-Christian, is unfortunate. Yoga is a traditional discipline that enhances health in all dimensions. It has been recognised as a research programme by several countries. As the world is progressing to become a global village, people are accepting the good from all cultures and yoga is one among them. In such a context, the British Church’s stand can not be justified.
