To celebrate the 60th year of Indian Independence and commemorate the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, the Films Division and Karnataka Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi have jointly organised a four-day film festival on Mahatma Gandhi for schoolchildren and public.
Inaugurating the festival at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, retired Judge of Karnataka High Court, A J Sadashiva stressed on the need to conduct more film festivals on the Indian freedom movement to create awareness among the masses about the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters.
“Films on Gandhiji, Jawaharlal Nehru, Rani Lakshmi Bai and others are an effective medium to communicate the message of the hardships they underwent to bring Independence to our country. Students should see such films and draw inspiration from them. Film festivals on prominent personalities should reach far-flung areas and villages,” he said.
