Left rallies to protest nuclear deal
Bangalore, dhns: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will organise two protest rallies from Kolkata and Chennai that are expected to culminate at Vishakapatnam, to oppose the Indo-US joint nuclear exercises and the nuclear pact between the two nations.

Briefing reporters on Monday, G N Nagaraj, State Secretary, CPI (M) said the first rally from Kolkata will be flagged off by veteran leader and former chief minister of West Bengal Jyoti Basu and led by A B Bardhan and the second rally will be led by CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat from Chennai.

“Comrades from across the nation will participate in both the processions, to be flagged off on September 4 and to reach Vishakapatnam on September 8,” said Nagaraj.

The CPI (M) has said that the exercises at Vizag would have two US warships with a “notorious” past. The USS Nimitz has taken part in the Iraq war of 2003 and the USS Kittyhawk has taken part in the Vietnam War of the 1960s.

The Kittyhawk was also sent by the US administration in the Bangladesh liberation war to assist Pakistan, Nagaraj added.

The protest is being jointly organised by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India and the All India Forward Bloc.
