R Narasimhan, the first chairman of IT solutions firm CMC Ltd, a subsidiary of Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS), died in Bangalore today.
He was 82 and is survived by his wife and a daughter. Narasimhan retired as Professor of Eminence at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in 1990. During his stint at the institute, he was also part of the team which built TIFRAC, India's first operational electronic digital computer. He was awarded Padmashree in 1976.
