The Flag NGN submarine cable would involve construction of four new cable systems across Mediterranean, East Africa, Asia and Pacific region, a company statement said here. The project, which would be completed by 2009-10, would be the world’s largest IP network over submarine cable systems and would create capacity to carry 2.5 billion simultaneous voice calls, 300 million web chats, 52 million video chats, it added. On completion, the FLAG NGN cable will nearly double the length of existing FLAG Global Network from 65,000 km to 115,000 km, expanding the company’s reach to connect five out of six people in the world and 60 countries contributing to 90 per cent of the world GDP, the company statement said.
“At the beginning of this year, we announced $1.5 billion global expansion of Flag’s global NGN over the next few years and this contract is a major initiative towards that. We are poised to achieve leadership in global data communications leveraging Rel Com’s strength as India’s largest integrated and fully converged communications service provider,” Reliance Communications Chairman,Anil Ambani, said.
