The future energy requirement of people will be met through conservation of energy coupled with the use of renewable energy sources, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited (KREDL) Managing Director, Dr B Shivalingaiah, said on Tuesday.
Inaugurating the ‘All India Energy Efficiency Capacity Building Programme Phase-2’ organised jointly by the World Bank, IRG Systems, South Asia, Union Ministry of Non-conventional Energy in Banglaore, Dr Shivalingaiah said the conventional sources of energy are replete with various problems including environmental degradation, global warming etc.
Moreover, the resources are limited. “People have to look for alternative energy sources and renewable energy is the only alternative. Energy consumption has to come down through efficient use of energy as one unit of energy saved is three units generated”, he observed.
He termed the use of electricity for heating water in domestic installations as criminal waste. The solar heaters were the best sources available, he said.
Prof G R Nagabhushan, former Advisor to Rajiv Gandhi on energy, observed that the importance of harnessing renewable sources and conservation of energy was growing day by day. He felt that energy generated through nuclear fusion could meet the future requirements of people.
