Shree Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated in Mangalore city with great pomp, gaiety and devotion.
International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) celebrated Shree Krishna Janmashtami at T M A Pai International Convention Centre on Tuesday, with the Sri Krishna Balarama’s idols arriving at the venue at 7.45 am.
ISKCON Mangalore President Karunya Sagar Dasa said that the highlights of the celebration was the chanting of one billion names of Lord Krishna, which is called as the ‘Hare Krishna Japa Yajna’. ‘Visheshalankar’ and ‘grand abhishek’ were also held. Since it is believed that Lord Krishna appreared at mid night, a Maha Mangalarathi with Sankirthan was held at 12 mid night.
A Yakshagana performance on ‘Lord Krishna’s Balya Leela’ by Ravi Alevooraya at was special highlight of the programme.
Sri Krishna Janmastami and Vyasa Puja celebrations was held by ISKCON at Sri Jagannath Mandir near Bunts Hostel Road with cultural shows, bhajan sandhya, sandhya arati, children competition, Pravachan, dance etc.
Shree Dharma Bhoomi Prathishtana organised its second ‘Vastu Soore’ programme for the children as a part of Janmashtami celebrations.
A number of took part in the ‘Soore’ programme and tried their level best to pick whatever they came across.
As Janmashtami apart from being a ritualistic celebration also stands for fun and frolic, many youth as well as religious organisations organised the very soul of Janmashtami, the ‘Mosaru Kudike’ programme. Sarvajanika Shree Krishna Jayanthi Utsava Samiti organised its 98th ‘Mosaru Kudike’ programme at Attavar Mosaru Kudike katte at 6 pm.
Sri Krishna Janma Mahothsava Samiti organised 38th Mosaru Kudike Festival on Tuesday at Nanda Gokula stage of Rajangana of Kadri Manjunatheshwara Temple.
It also held a grand procession of the idol of Lord Sri Krishna, which was brought out on a spendid procession from Jaya Maruthi Bajana Mandir Kadri to Sri Gopala Krishna Mutt, near Kadri Kambla accompanied by colourful tableau and ‘pilivesha’ and other traditional folk arts. The rains that splshed over the city did not perturb the spirit of celebration in the devotees.
