MADIKERI MUNICIPAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS
31 wards to go for polls on Sept 28

State Election Commission has declared elections in the 31 wards of Madikeri City Municipal Council to be held on September 28. Apart from this, elections will also be held in 13 wards of Kushalnagar Town Panchayat, 16 ward sof Virajpet and 11 wards of Somwarpet, summing upto 71 wards in total.

Election Code of Conduct was enforced on Tuesday and the candidates can file nominations from September 10 onwards. September 17 is the last day for filing nominations and the verification of nominations will be held on September 18. The candidates wishing to withdraw their nomination must do so within September 20. While the polling will be held on September 28, counting will be held on September 30.

CMC elections were postponed as former minister M C Nanaiah raised objection to the election commission about the move of the Government of raising the number of wards from 23 to 31.

On this background, Election Commission had asked the government for a clarification, to which the government had said that it was under the Karnataka Municipal Council Act of 1964, Column 13 that the government had raised the number of wards, which was accepted by the Commission and declared elections for these 31 wards.
