With the aim of converting Belur-Mudigere road into a two-lane road, former panchayat administration and incumbent MLAs had chalked out a master plan and in order to initiate works, trees and petty shops on the road side were vacated.
The works started at full swing and the MLA sanctioned Rs 20 lakh for the works. The master plan intended to convert the stretch from Shwetha Medicals to the Police Circle into a two-lane road and make provisions for parking vehicles and plant trees on the road sides.
However, the over enthusiasm of the concerned became hurdles in the progress of works.
While on one hand, the town panchayat insisted that they will take up the works, on the other hand, the PWD Department claimed that the road comes under their jurisdiction and hence the department will undertake the works.
While competition arised between the two, the laying of the road, which is an important road in the town, was stalled and travelling on the road became a nightmare.
Meanwhile, the MLA was pressurised to resume works and the works commenced with relocating electricity poles along the road.
However, due to various reasons, the works were stalled once again. During the tenure of administration officers of the panchayat, two high-mast lamps were in use.
Due to the efforts of the MLA, Rs 1,75 crore has been sanctioned for the development works in the town. However, development works have not begun yet.
As town panchayat elections ensued, the works on the road have come to a standstill. However, politicians are making their own calculations and the public is bearing the brunt of all these developments.
