FOOTBALL / Super Division league
Postal fail to deliver
DH News Service, Bangalore:

In-form Postal were left to rue numerous missed opportunities as Sports Authority of India (SAI) held them to a goalless draw in the Super Division Football league at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Tuesday.

Starting their season on a perfect note with two wins, Postal failed to cash in on some easy offerings from SAI defence as their forwards lacked shooting prowess in a drab affair. Highly slippery conditions just around the centre-line made matters difficult for both sides in a game that moved on at snail’s pace.

Postal almost got into the lead on several occasions with their best chance coming in the 43rd minute from a set-piece. Santosh Kumar’s free-kick from the left of the SAI box curled in but SAI custodian Dada Farid Khan managed to keep the ball away.

Seven minutes after resumption, Arvind’s close ranger was saved by Khan, this time with a brilliant one-handed punch diving low to the right. Postal forwards Einstein and Srinivasa were often guilty of some lacklustre crossings and miscued passes.

In the 63rd minute, Arun Pandey failed to head in a floater from Srinivasa from right flank though SAI guardian Khan was caught off-guard with a mistimed charge.

For SAI, the day’s best effort came from an otherwise off-colour captain Arokiaraj Kenneth. His 30-yard effort was palmed away by Postal goalkeeper Ravindran just under the cross-piece.

Postal are now placed third in the table with seven points while SAI’s tally is four points from three outings.

In the ‘A’ Division encounter, Government Press got the better of Bangalore United Football Club 3-1. Bhaskar (19th), Vijaya Babu (33rd) and Anthony Benedict (84th) found the target for the winners while Kamal (46th) netted for BUFC. Wednesday’s matches: ‘A’ Division: Sri Gajanana vs Universal, 1:45 pm; Dharmaraja Union vs Nationals, 3.45 pm.
