South African opener Loots Bosman will miss the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup after he was ruled out with a back injury on Tuesday.
Bosman injured his back when he dived into the boundary boards during a one-dayer against Zimbabwe last month.
A statement released by Cricket South Africa (CSA) said Bosman needed six weeks' rest to recover from an ‘injury to the lumbar spine.’
A replacement has yet to be named. The tournament in South Africa begins next Tuesday.
Sarwan has no ICL plans
West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan has scotched rumours that he was set to join the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL), saying that he does not have any idea about the event and the people backing it, reports PTI from Bridgetown.
Insisting that he ‘knows nothing of the tournament,’ Sarwan said neither had anyone contacted him to be part of the rebel league, nor was he aware of any such offer being made to his West Indies team-mates.
Media reports earlier claimed that a number of West Indian players had been approached with offers ranging from $350,000 to $500,000 to join the league, which has already roped in former West Indies captain Brian Lara.
“I’m not one of them. I don’t know who they are and I don’t know if they are any players at all, but I’m definitely not one of them.
“I have not been contacted by the ICL,” Sarwan was quoted as saying by Daily Nation. Sarwan will lead the West Indies in the World Twenty20 Cup beginning in South Africa next Tuesday.
