State Director General of Police K R Sreenivasa Rao was present before the High Court on Wednesday, pursuant to the Court’s direction seeking his presence over some serious allegations levelled against Devanahalli police officials.
The Division Bench comprising Justice K L Manjunath and Justice Jawad Rahim had summoned the DGP in course of a habeas corpus petition seeking production and custody of a missing minor girl.
The Bench observed that the police had not registered any case against the young man alleged to have abducted the 17-year-old girl but, had showed off, as if she had gone to her friend’s house on her own will. The conduct raised serious suspicions, it observed.
The Court also took a serious view that cops were not providing proper details to the State Public Prosecutor.
The Court further raised concerns over the negligent behaviour of police officials in matter of such habeas corpus cases.
DGP told the court that suitable action would be taken against concerned officials, if there was any foul play.
He assured the court that a liaison officer would be appointed to facilitate proper communication regarding the court proceedings in such matters, to the police department.
A circular will also be issued to the department officials to ensure diligent action in such cases, he said.
The Bench adjourned the case to Sept 12, for further consideration.
HC summons BBMP chief
BBMP Commissioner S Subramanya had appeared before a Division Bench of High Court on Wednesday, pursuant to its summons.
The Division Bench comprising Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice A S Pachhapure had directed the Commissioner to appear personally before it, following failure of concerned BBMP officials to place correct facts of a case being heard by it. The petitioner in the case had alleged of some unauthorised constructions and of BBMP’s inaction regarding the same. The officials had come out with vague explanations in the matter.
Justice Manjula Chellur said that the Court had summoned the commissioner so that he could know what was happening in the case.
“What they (BBMP officers) tell you in your chambers is different from what happens on the field,” Justice Chellur commented.
The Bench then directed BBMP counsel to file a counter affidavit explaining the present state of affairs in respect of alleged unauthorised constructions within a week, while seeking some clarifications from the petitioner side also.
