Dear Sir,
I have completed B.Sc (Psychology). I want to do M.Sc in the same field. Which colleges offer this course in Bangalore? What are the course details?
Praful, Bangalore
Dear Praful,
M.Sc in Psychology is available to students who have completed their degree with any of the social science or home science subjects. You have a choice between Psychology and Psychological Counselling, both being two year M.Sc. courses. These courses are available at Bangalore University, Christ, Surana, CMR, Montfort and a few other colleges, through their individual entrance tests. The course contains all aspects of human behaviour and the various fields of application from children to industrial, mentally ill, etc.
Dear Sir,
I am doing air hostess, travel and hospitality management training. After this course will I get a good job? How can I improve my English?
Anonymous
Dear Anonymous,
While there has been a significant increase in requirements of air hostesses by different airlines, the number of trainees being put out by various private institutions is much higher than the jobs available. Hence a private diploma in this or travel field can improve your skills, but you will have to struggle to get a good job. English definitely plays an important role, and you can join any of the English Speaking classes and then keep practicing by talking in English wherever possible. Your overall personality, communication skills, and sharpness of mind will play a lead role in getting you a good job.
Dear Sir,
I am doing my 3rd year engineering in electronics. I want to learn languages like C++, Java, Visual Basic. Can you suggest a few good academies or institutes in Bangalore which offer correspondence in these courses.
Anonymous
Dear Anonymous
Computer languages need to be learnt practically and by hands-on experience, so do not go for correspondence courses. While NIIT and APTECH are the most popular, there are many other fairly good private institutes all over. Choose one which is near to you, which suits your budget, and which allows you long hours of practice. Also, choose the language to learn based on which field you would like to be working in.
Dear Sir,
I have completed my diploma in computer science and have got direct admission to B.E(C.S) through lateral entry scheme. I lost one year in B.E. I have heard that it is possible to enter BCA final exams directly. Is there a chance of getting jobs with these degrees?
A reader
Dear Reader,
Since you have already completed your Diploma and have secured admission in B.E, please do not get disheartened just because you lost a year. A B.E. in computer science will be a great boost to your career, much more than a BCA. Also, no recognised university allows you to sit directly for final year BCA exams, so please do not get misled by middlemen. Find out why you could not clear some of the subjects, work hard, get coaching if necessary, and with a strong resolve complete your B.E.
Dear Sir,
I am doing my 7th semester engineering in E&C. I want to take up the I.E.S exams. How do I go about it?
Anonymous
Dear Anonymous,
The Indian Engineering Service (IES) is open to engineering graduates of most branches. You need to appear for a competitive exam like the one for IAS, which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (www.upsc.gov.in) every year. On successful clearance, you are entitled to become a Class I Officer in Central PWD and various other engineering departments of the Central Government. Along with your technical knowledge, they also test you for your general knowledge and presentation skills.
Dear Sir,
I have completed my II PUC and discontinued my BA degree. Can I directly go for MA in Sociology?
Nazia Sultana
Dear Nazia,
All recognised Indian universities have stopped offering Masters Degrees directly under open university system. However, if you have already cleared one or two years of your BA, you can get lateral entry into the next year, and finish off your degree faster, and then continue with MA. Most Open Universities are already closing admissions for the year, so please apply immediately. Suggested list includes Bangalore, Karnataka State Open, Kuvempu, Madras, Madurai Kamraj, Annamalai Universities, or IGNOU.
Dear Sir,
I am doing BA (psychology, optional English, journalism). After graduation I want to do MS in Visual Communication. Which colleges in Bangalore or Hyderabad offer this course?
Abhijeet, Bangalore
Dear Abhijeet,
Visual Communication and related courses in design and creativity are offered by the National Institute of Creative Communication, Hennur Rd (www.niccindia.org, Ph: 65337001), Shristi School of Design, Yelahanka, Wigan & Leigh College near Commercial Street, and a few others. Do check out your aptitude and your creative talent before you take the plunge. There are also specialised courses like MBA in retail design being offered by NICC in Bangalore.
Dear Sir, I have completed Company Secretaryship course and am practicing. I want to do an additional course to enhance my career prospects. What is your opinion on MBA (distance learning) or BGL? Are there any universities offering an LL.B through distance learning?
Arvinde
Dear Arvind,
LL.B. is not offered through distance learning, but if you are a graduate from any stream, you can take up PG Diploma courses in Intellectual Property Rights, Medical Law, etc. These courses are even offered through distance learning by the prestigious National Law School University of India and other universities. If you are more tuned towards management, you can certainly do an MBA through distance learning, or better still through weekend or part-time courses (known as Executive MBA’s) which are quite flexible, and can be completed even if you are in a full time job.
