Hundreds of Dalit Sangharsha Samithi and students’ Union members protested in front of the taluk office on Wednesday.
They took out a huge protest pressing for basic amenities and completion of the hostel buildings works as soon as possible.
Later the protesters held a dharna in front of the taluk office. Addressing the protesters, leader of the Dalit Sangharsha Samithi B V Venkataramana said that more than 850 students land in towns to pursue their higher education every year and they have been deprived of boarding and lodging facilities.
More than 450 students who are admitted at Dr B R Ambedkar hostel and more than 450 students who have been staying at the Pre-University hostels are still facing many problems, he complained.
Leader Kiran Kumar said that the government had asked the Land Army Corporation to establish hostels before six years but they are not yet completed and have turned out to be of inferior quality, he accused.
They submitted a memorandum pressing for to establish more and more hostels, libraries, and completion of the hostel building works as early as possible. Taluk co-ordinator Dr Chinnakaivaraiah, leader Aa Na Murthy and others were present.
