The Rashtriya Hindu Sena has urged the government to expose the nexus between police officials, politicians and gangsters in Belgaum which has been leading to heinous crimes in the city.

In a memorandum addressed to Union and State home ministers on Tuesday, the sena activists said due to increasing goondaism and mafia activities, the city is growing into a den for illegal activities. To expose how the nexus between police and goonda elements in Belgaum had given way to criminal activities, the government should hand over the cases pertaining to gangster Pravin Shintre and drug peddler Akash Desai to the CBI for investigation, Sena members urged.

The situation here is not conducive for students or businessmen.

The racket involving drug peddler Akash Desai which was busted recently shows how Belgaum has become a safe haven for peddlers.

The supari killing of Sheetal Chougale recently shows how some of police officials were hand-in-glove with criminals, the memorandum stated.

The sena said due to the support of police officials and political leaders, some of the dreaded criminals have been taking up their activities without any fear or hindrance.
