JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda on Tuesday visited Chigalli dam site in Mundgod taluk, which had witnessed a breach last month causing heavy damges to crops.
He promised the affected people to make efforts to sanction relief from the State government. The State government had already released fund to reconstruct the dam. The dam construction work would be initiated soon and within one year the work would be completed, he said.
Farmers of the region requested Deve Gowda that they were solely dependent on the crops which were washed away due to breach in the dam. So enough compensation should be provided at the earliest for the losses. Gowda also said that the silt accumulated in the dam would also be removed to store more water to facilitate the farming community.
He travelled in an autorikshaw to view Chigalli dam as any other vehicles would not reach near the site. As autorikshaw too could not move further near to the dam site, he could not see the breach which caused heavy loss.
