MIT to hold model UN from Oct 11
DH News Service, Manipal:

Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) will hold a two-day summit based on the concept of Model United Nations (MUN) for the first time at the college-level in India on October 11 and 12.

MUN primarily seeks to edify the participants on the much debated issues such as civics, effective communication, globalisation and multilateral diplomacy.

The students will step into the shoes of foreign diplomats for the two-day mock summit and participate in a simulated session of an inter-governmental organisation.

The students are required to take up a country, carry out extensive research on it and deal with the international issues, debate, deliberate, consult and arrive at a solution. MUN, Summit Manipal will hold the General Assembly Plenary which will take up two global affairs, namely, climate change and destruction of environment due to technical advancement and nuclear related issues.

Notices and invitations have been sent to various institutes and any number of non-official entries could be directly sent to the institute. The applicants must fill the form and write a 250 word essay on any one of the two above mentioned topics.

The essays would be graded by senior faculty members and selections would be made on the basis of the analysis of the topic, the clarity of thought and new creative ideas to reach solutions to the above problems.

Students are invited from engineering, law colleges, mass communication, medical, Arts, Science, Commerce and IT backgrounds from across the country. The awards will be for high commendation, commendation and honorary mention.

Each college is required to send in two official applications and the application forms must reach the institute within September 15.  For further details contact Jayashree (9901730515), Ayush Prasad (9449836882) or Ankita Sati (9886134344), stated a press release.
