The body of the youth who allegedly died during questioning by police was cremated in Hubli on Wednesday.
Tension prevailed at Keshwapur area in Hubli on Tuesday when a youth, who was brought to police station for questioning on the charges of gambling, died.
Four constables attached to Keshwapur police station have been placed under suspension pending enquiry in connection with the mysterious death of a youth, who was brought for questioning by police. The postmortem of the body has be done.
This incident sparked off strong protest and an irate mob indulged in stone throwing on police station and also broke window panes of at least three police jeeps. The deceased has been identified as Girish Shiggaon (28). Two persons were injured and three jeeps and a motorcycle belonging to Keshwapur Police Station were damaged by the mob.
On receipt of information of gambling near Bengeri, five police personnel including two in mufti raided. While others managed to escape police caught Girish Shiggaon who was brought to police station in an autorickshaw by three police personnel. Two other police personnel came there walking.
It is alleged that after 45 minutes police took Girish in another autorickshaw and reportedly dumped him in a gutter near his house. According to localites, Girish had died by that time.
The news of police ‘dumping’ Girish spread like a wild fire in the whole area. Immediately police swung into action and shifted him to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital.
