Although it is still monsoon season, the town has already been reeling under acute water scarcity. With water taps of the town largely going dry even before the commencement winter, the residents have to depend on private tankers to get potable water.
The public have urged the authorities concerned to tackle the deepening water crisis, but there is hardly any success for the efforts.
Water had been supplied to the town in private and town panchayat tankers during the last summer and the service was was suspended subsequently anticipating improvement in the situation following good rainfall during monsoon, they said.
However, crisis deepened and people had to struggle for water at Doddapet, Maruti Layout, Kalugod and other localities of the town, they said observing that the situation was worse at government hostels where water was not supplied in tankers.
They said that the tahsildar and the taluk panchayat authorities were reluctant to supply water to the affected areas and on enquiry, officials suggested the people get water on their own. As the efforts of the public to prevail upon the tahsildar and other officials concerned had gone in vain, the deputy commissioner should intervene and do the needful to help the people, they said.
