Settlement of Financial Issues
New Delhi, Sept. 5.
The Finance Minister, Mr T T Krishnamachari, informed the Lok Sabha today that he had accepted the Pakistan Finance Minister’s suggestion for a meeting of the two ministers to discuss outstanding Indo-Pak financial issues.
Mr Krishnamachari hoped that the meeting would take place as soon as possible after he returned from his ensuing visit to the United States and Europe.
Wealth Tax Bill Awaits Assent
New Delhi, Sept. 5.
With its return by the Rajya Sabha to the other House of Parliament today the Wealth Tax Bill, one of the most controversial legislative measures aimed at rationalising the country’s tax structure, now awaits the President’s assent to become he law of the land.
India is the sixth country in the world to try this tax.

Drive To Check Drop-outs
New Delhi, Sept. 5.
A national campaign for the universalisation of elementary education was launched on Teacher’s Day today, according to an official release. The campaign, which will continue until Children’s Day on November 14, will aim at increasing the enrolment and retention of students at the elementary school stage. Follow-up action will, continue throughout the academic year. Inaugurating the campaign, Minister of State for Education, Mrs Sheila Kaul said the universalisation of elementary education “is a cherished goal of the
national movement.”
