To teachers, with love...
DH News Service,Bangalore :
Its that time of the year again when teachers are felicitated on the occasion of Indias first president Dr Radhakrishnans birth anniversary, on September 5...

It’s that time of the year again when teachers are felicitated on the occasion of India’s first president Dr Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary, on September 5. Series of cultural programmes and competitions were held on Teacher’s Day, as part of the celebration in educational institutions. In Bangalore, all educational institutions held special programmes for teachers.

Though some institutions preferred to keep the celebration a low-key affair, many institutions wore a festive look, with classrooms decorated with colourful festoons, banners and posters carrying various messages for their ‘favourite teachers’.

In many schools, the day began with students making a beeline in front of the staff rooms,  waiting for their turn to wish their teachers by presenting them bouquets and small gifts.

For Princess Franklyn, principal of Bishop Cottons’ Girls School, the day was memorable has she received a warm welcome from kindergarten students who gave her hugs and kisses. “Children wished me by giving flowers and planting kiss on my cheeks. It was  a wonderful feeling,” she said.  In her school, students celebrated the day by conducting special programmes for teachers.
In another part of the City, at Air Force School in Jalahalli, students celebrated the day by cutting the cake and conducting programmes for teachers.
Felicitated
“This year, students felicitated all teachers. The first half of the day, we had students having programmes for us and the second half we conducted some cultural programmes. Teachers had a gala time,”  B S Jayashree, a teacher, said.

Unlike schools, the celebration in most colleges was restricted only to classroom. Students called their  respective class teachers and wished them. “It was a very informal celebration in our college,” said Surana College principal K E Radhakrishna.

“Classes were held as per schedule but students called their respective subject teachers and greeted them by giving flowers and gifts,” he added.

In professional colleges too, students showed a lot of enthusiasm in celebrating the day.  At R V College of Engineering (RVCE), besides students, the management held various programmes for teachers. “We held several games and competition for teachers. Seminars were also organised for teachers on `Teachers education’ and `role of teachers in entreprenuership’. Three teachers were felicitated and one of them was selected by an MNC,” said Dr S C Sharma, Principal.

However, some students believe remembering them only on Teacher’s Day does not serve any purpose.
“I don’t believe in giving cards or gifts to the teachers. A sincere heartfelt thanks should do. Moreover, no teachers expect their students to give any gift. The true gift for them is to achieve our goals,” said Sujith John of Christ College.

SEEK GOOD TEXTS: MANSUR
Karnataka Sangeeth Nrithya Academy President Rajashekar Mansur on Wednesday called upon English teachers to impress upon the Board of Studies (BOS) members to prescribe good textbooks for the students that meet the requirements of students.

Speaking at the valedictory function of refresher course in English, he said that teachers should become aware of students requirements. “ Students want to learn English, which can be used in their life in terms of job and career instead of simply teaching literature to them,” he said. “There are many spoken English classes in the City, minting money as the students are not able to get what they want in the educational institutions.”
