German automobile major BMW plans to launch its premium small car BMW Mini Cooper in the country by next fiscal, a top company official said.
“BMW is expected to launch the BMW Mini Cooper in FY09 at a price tag of Rs 20 lakh,” BMW India President Peter Kronschnabl told reporters on Thursday. “We see a 30-35 per cent growth in the luxury car market in India,” he said.
BMW India’s plant in Chennai currently produces the BMW 3 series and BMW 5 series sedans in petrol and diesel variants.
The plant has a capacity to produce 1,700 units a year on a one shift basis.
