Intel’s Quad-Core Xeon processor
Intel India, on Thursday, unveiled the industry’s first quad-core processors, specifically designed for multi-processor (MP) servers running applications, according to a company statement.
The six new Quad-Core Xeon 7300 series processors, claims Intel, can deliver more than twice the performance and more than three times the performance per watt over the company’s previous generation dual-core products. The platform’s energy-efficient performance, coupled with enhanced virtualisation capabilities, will enable customers to significantly lower their total cost of ownership, Intel said.
Starting Thursday, servers based on Xeon 7300 series processors are expected to be announced by more than 50 system manufacturers, including HCL, Wipro, Dell, Egenera, Fujitsu, Fujitsu-Siemens, Hitachi, HP, IBM, NEC, Sun, Supermicro, and Unisys. The 7300 series includes frequencies up to 2.93GHz at 130 watts, several 80-watt processors and a 50-watt version optimized for four socket blades and high-density rack form factors with a frequency of 1.86GHz.
Wipro launches Mission10X
Wipro Technologies, announced in Bangalore on Wednesday, the launch of Mission10X, aimed at promoting systemic changes to current teaching-learning paradigms in Engineering Education. Wipro is doing this in collaboration with Academia to enhance Graduate Engineer’s employability significantly.
Mission10X is an outcome of intense research work done by Wipro’s Innovation team. Mission10X has arrived at a unique “Wipro Learning Model” that enables a faculty to make a student imbibe ‘higher levels of understanding’ of a subject taught in classrooms along with development of ‘key behavioral skills’ in parallel.
It involves a layered set of capability building workshops to help nurture talent pool across the country and will be launched across the country in a phased manner. Mission10X will equip 1000 faculty in current financial year and another 3000 faculty next year. The aim is to cover 6000 faculty in the third year taking the total to 10,000 by year 2010.
