Hyundai Motors sets a record
Hyundai Motor India Ltd announced on Thursday that it has achieved a landmark by rolling out the fastest 1,500,000th car, in the month of September 2007, nine years since Hyundai started production in India. The above achievements called for expansion of the dealership network of Hyundai Motor India. In the beginning of 2007 there were 167 dealerships; Hyundai now plans to take this number to around 250 operational dealers spread across India by the end of 2007.
SBI MF launches 90-day fund
SBI Mutual Fund has lunched 90-day fund under SBI Debt Fund Series (SDFS), a close-ended debt scheme, the bank said in Bangalore on Thursday. The New Fund Offer would be for subscription on September 7, 2007 and close on September 11, 2007. The minimum investment would be Rs 50,000 and in multiples of Rs 1,000 thereafter. The fund would invest in a portfolio of AAA/AA+ rated debt instruments, Government securities, securitised debt and money market instruments. The fund would have both growth and dividend options.
CII Karnataka’s theme for ‘07-08
The Karnataka chapter of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) announced on Thursday that its agenda for the state for 2007-08 focuses on “Building People, Building Karnataka”.
As part of this objective, the CII would concentrate on converting the state’s human resources into a skilled and productive force to help in meeting the requirement of the economy’s growing sectors. CII has set up a core group on aerospace to make Karnataka a hub for aerospace and it is also making efforts to sensitise the corporate sector on various social and developmental challenges, CII Karnataka said in Bangalore.
Cognizant eyes cos in Europe, US
Cognizant Technology is looking for acquisitions in consulting space in Europe and US, Company’s Vice-Chairman Lakshmi Narayanan said on Thursday in Bangalore. “We are looking at specific opportunities in the consulting end in certain geographies where we are not operating,” Mr Narayanan told reporters at NASSCOM’s organised quality summit. The company would not say if it is evaluating a few candidates at this stage or is in active discussion with firms for potential buy-out. Mr Narayanan said the company is in the process of investing $ 300 million in creating infrastructure and workspace in tier-I and tier-II cities.
Motorola’s new country head
The global handset and IT company Motorola has appointed Soumitra Sana as President for its Indian operations. Sana also occupies the position of Managing Director for Motorola Software Group India, a company statement said on Thursday. In addition to his new role, he would be responsible for operations and site management at Motorola Software Group besides engineering operations of the IP networking and applications technology group, the statement added.
