Radioguided surgery for breast cancer patients
Bangalore,dhns: Breast cancer affects women both psychologically and physically.
Women suffering from breast cancer can look for treatment through a “unique” radioguided surgery that is available at Manipal hospital at the cost of rupees twelve to fourteen thousand.
Dr Somashekhar, consultant surgical oncologist at Manipal Hospital informs that radioguided surgery (RGS) is a surgical technique that enables the surgeon to identify the cancerous tissue marked by an dye and radio tracer before the surgery is conducted with the help of handled gamma probe. Based on the tissue characteristics, the radioactive tracer helps in removing the cancer.

“Traditional methods that were used resulted women in lot of pain. But the new radioguided surgery (RGS), which is done using the sentinal lymph node and roll technique, will give better quality of life to women and help them continue to lead a healthy life,” he added.
