CENTRAL MARKET ROAD, MAIDAN 1st CROSS
MCC continues footpath clearance drive
DH News Service, Mangalore:

In the second phase of its eviction drive, Mangalore City Corporation evicted many unauthorised roadside vendors around the Lady Goschen Hospital and Town Hall area, the heart of the City, on Thursday evening.

The workers of  the Corporation, as per the directions of the officials, went on evicting the unauthorised footpath vendors on the Central Market Road, Maidan I Cross Road, the premises of Lady Goschen and Town Hall.

However, compared to the first phase of the drive, that was carried out on August 29, the Thursday’s eviction drive was a smaller one.

Most of the vendors were selling fruits, vegetable and flowers. The seized articles were transported in two lorries. JCBs were not used.

“As there were not much petty shops, we did not use JCBs. Perhaps, the vendors did not dare to put up new petty shops again after the first drive. As our workers approached, all the vendors ran away. We have seized whatever left on the spot,” MCC Commissioner Krishnappa Poojary informed Deccan Herald.

He said the drive will continue untill the City becomes free of illegal petty shops and unauthorised vendors on footpaths. “We are dare enough to continue the drive and make the city a neat and clean one,” he maintained.

However, once the workers carrying out eviction and police personnel disappeared from the scene, most of the vendors returned to their earlier places and started their usual business, spreading whatever they had grabbed at the last moment of eviction.
