As per the call given by Vishwa Hindu Parishat to drop the proposal of demolishing Ramasethu, Sri Rameshwaram Ramasethu Rakshana Vedike will observe rasta roko at all taluk centres from 8 am to 11 am on September 12.
Informing this to media here on Thursday, Vedike Kodagu Pranta chief Vijaya Vishnu Bhat, Convener Chi Na Somesh and Organising Secretary K Kushalappa, appealed the public, entrepreneurs, auto drivers and private bus owners to support the movement.
Though Rameshwaram Chalo was conducted on August 26, neither Tamil Nadu government nor the Union government showed concern regarding our request. However, the temporary stay given by Supreme Court till September 14 is the first victory received by the Hindu society, Somesh said.
The satellite pictures have proved the existence of the Ramasethu constructed between Dhanushkoti of Rameshwara and Sri Lanka during the times of Ramayana. Overseas scientists have warned that the demolition of bridge would lead to another Tsunami, he said.
Union Minister of Ports T R Balu has been doing efforts behind the screens to sell the abundant Thorium accumulation on the sea-bed in Rameshwaram, he alleged and added that thousands of fishermen too were going to be displaced due to the project.
The Vedike urged the government to declare Ramasethu a national memorial, and look for an alternative instead of harming the bridge.
