Weaving the intricacies of modern rap with the oldest unbroken musical traditions of India in Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil and English is the new form of music for the hip-hop loving Indians. Indian music has developed within a very complex interaction between different peoples of different races and cultures which lead to the birth of this genre of music.
Desi Media Networks or DMN is the India’s first independent hip hop and rap record label and entertainment company launched recently in the city. “The culture of desi hip-hop goes 10 years back but there isn’t a single desi hip hop and rap record label or website running under this label. We wanted to fill in this vacuum and promote this desi form of music in a big way and that led to the birth of desi Media Networks” says Varun Shashidharan, the founder and Managing Director of DMN.
The launch event organised at NYX, Bangalore saw some high voltage performances including live rap performance by Bangalore’s hip hop and rap crew “Graffiti.” DJ Megha Watt from Hyderabad was also present in the event. The event was organised and managed by “Spill The Beans” in collaboration with Desi Media networks.
Talking about the future plans of desi Media Networks, Sree Ram, Vice President says “In the immediate future, we plan on launching a series of live shows, concerts, events and conceptual parties all across India to promote Desi music”.
