GANDHINAGAR GRAPEVINE

Another son rises
Yet another producer's son will test his luck in tinsel town. Sudhakar, son of M Krishnappa who is producing Appachchi is debuting in Vasantha Kala, directed by another newcomer Vaddanahalli Srinivas, a protege of Kashinath. However, Sudhakar is not the solo lead. Nagakiran who has just finished Marujanma for A R Babu is the main lead. Haripriya, heroine of Manju Maskalmatti's Manasugala Mathu Madhura plays the love interest of both the men in this love triangle. To make this film different from others, director Srinivas has made Nagakiran a flower shop owner and Sudhakar a college student. How different will the film turn out is anybody's guess as the director was tight-lipped. Camera will be handled by Venus Murthy and Manohar is composing the music. The film has six songs which will be shot in Chikamagalur and Madikeri. V Manohar,Kaviraj and Srinivas himself have each penned two songs.

Budding scribe on screen?
Newcomer Sudhakar is a typical example of the average student these days with dreams of making it big in films. This movie buff was so keen to join films that he pestered father Krishnappa to launch him. When that failed, he promptly stopped attending classes. Father and son then struck a deal: Krishnappa would allow Sudhakar to don the grease paint only if Sudhakar continued with his studies. And Sudhakar got some 'training' in acting by doing a bit role in Appachchi before Vasantha Kala happened. And pray what course was sudhakar studying? B A Journalism! When asked why he chose journalism as his subject this new hero was quick to reply, "It has scope"! Wonder what the rest of future journalists have in mind with regard to choosing their field of work.

Flower power
Now that Nagakiran has finished Marujanma, he has had to shed his royal garb. But the actor has sure come a long way from being skinny to having a well-toned body. He is now a shop owner selling flowers to pretty girls in Vasantha Kala. It was perhaps for this reason that his first heroine Priyanka came in late to wish her hero all success with guess what ? A large bouquet of flowers! For all we know she may have passed on a few tips on selling bouquets too.

S(t)inging controversy
The controversy surrounding selecting local singers versus outsiders in Kannada films never seems to abate. Several composers are bringing in outsiders as well as roping in local singers. They reason that this move brings in lot of variety in music. Now there is another angle too. According to music director V Manohar, our playback singers do not have that burning ambition to succeed everywhere. They are content with their achievements on home ground. To illustrate his point Manohar had this to say, "Singers like Vijay Yesudas, son of legendary singer Yesudas and Vidhu Pratap have sung in scores of Malayalam films and bagged many awards. Yet these guys kept contacting me to ask for a chance to sing in Kannada. These boys want to sing in as many languages as possible and become popular too. Sadly, though less in number our male playback singers are hardly forthcoming." Over to the singers now.

Roma’s aroma in Kannada
Actor Nagashekhar has finally realised his ambition of turning director. No he is not directing Asin as he had wanted to earlier, but is directing hot property down in Kerala, Roma of the award winning film Notebook. Nagashekhar has cast her opposite friend and current heartthrob Ganesh in Aramane produced by K Manju. Supposed to be an intense family drama Aramane is being shot on a palatial set that also is said to play an important role in the film. Erected at a cost of more than rupees 35 lakhs by art director Ismail, the set is painted white and has lots of interesting props including sepia-tinted photos of erstwhile Mysore glory. To say more would be giving away the secret and the director is keen that the secret remains so.

‘Grand’pa act
Actor Ananth Nag is all set to become grand father again. Not in real life but in Aramane. Here he plays an autocratic patriarch. And the still charmingly handsome actor had a confession to make. He was anxious over his ability to deliver what Nagashekhar asked with the same intensity and sincerity for the role is shaped in such a way that Ananth turns from negative to positive by the end the film. Aramane is Ananth's third film with Ganesh and yet the actor termed his role as challenging, even though he plays the heroine's grandpa.

Ganeshaye namah
Actor Ganesh is sure going places. Sometimes he has even had his vision turned topsy-turvy. And for a good reason too. Recently, the actor was hung upside down the whole day by Nagashekhar, all for a song in Aramane. With Mungaaru Male still going strong, Hudugata and Cheluvina Chittara also catching up, Ganesh is willing to raise the bar to give entertainment to his fans.

Mallu Mol(l)
She charmed one and all with her portrayal of a mischievous yet emotional student in Roshan Andrews' Malayalam film, Notebook. And went on to win several awards including the State award and the recent Filmfare award. Now, Roma is all set to woo Kannadigas in Aramane, being directed by Nagashekhar. She feels honoured to be playing the grand daughter of Anant Nag and is keen to win a place in Kannadiga hearts. But one must say she makes a pretty pair with Ganesh, who is not exactly that tall. With an interesting mix of cast and technical finesse, Aramane is sure to be one of the most must-watch films.
