Indian Railways [IR] has classified 185 railway stations across the country, including those of Bangalore City, Yeshwantpur and Mysore, as sensitive stations and has upgraded their security.
Citing the various steps taken by the authorities, Minister of State for railways R Velu told Parliament on Thursday that unauthorised entry/exit points are being reviewed for closure, close circuit television and cameras have been installed at important railway stations and trained staff have been appointed to monitor suspicious movements.
He added that at the main entry points to the platforms, metal detectors have been installed, the strength of the dog squad is being augmented, drives are being conducted against unauthorised passengers/undesirable elements in trains and railway premises and Railway Protection Force personnel are being briefed thoroughly to keep effective vigil on the suspects boarding and alighting trains at the stations.
In addition to these measures, modern security gadgets are being procured. Efforts are also being made to fill-up the vacancies in RPF and further augment the strength.
A total of 24 cyber cafes and about 6000 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) in 14,000 locations have so far been sanctioned.
