The NDA on Thursday expressed hope that the government may relent and find a way to accommodate their demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to scrutinise the Indo-US civil nuclear deal.

A flurry of meetings between the UPA ministers and the BJP leaders continued with the latter trying to convince the government that a structured mechanism with representatives from all political parties would serve the purpose of the national interests better than the present Committee which comprised only the Left and the UPA partners.

The deputy leaders of opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and V K Malhotra interacted with central ministers Suresh Pachori and Priya Ranjan Das Munshi respectively.

Senior BJP leaders L K Advani and Jaswant Singh had met External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday to press their demand.
