Karnataka State Human Rights Commission chairperson Justice S R Nayak has appealed to the State government to provide a separate building for the commission and essential staff.
Speaking to press persons in Bangalore on Thursday, Justice Nayak said at present the commission is housed at Multistorey building.
The Commission has already received 75 complaints from different parts of the state and they should be taken up for investigation at the earliest.
“The commission needs 160 staff members, including 42 personal staff, 58 administrative staff, 59 legal staff and 101 staff for the investigation wing,” he said.
Justice Nayak said “It is very difficult to start work without sufficient staff. We need stenographers and assistants to keep files, and police staff to conduct investigation. The government should understand the necessity of the staff and make efforts to fulfil our requirements soon”.
The chairperson said that commission has requested for a building at the central part of Bangalore. “The commission can not work either in Vidhana Soudha or Vikasa Soudha where entry of the common public is restricted. The office should have free access to the public,” he said.
