A drunk security guard sent the faculty and students of MES college, Malleswaram into a tizzy on Friday, after he set off a bomb scare.

According to police sources, the security guard informed the faculty that two unidentified youth on a motorbike told him a bomb had been planted in the campus and it would explode in an hour’s time.

Police were immediately alerted. A bomb detection and disposal squad arrived on the scene with sniffer dogs and a search ensued, but no bomb was found. It turned out the inebriated guard, Devaraju (26), a resident of Kamakshipalya, had pulled a fast one. Police took Devaraju into custody and subjected him to some grilling which revealed he played th prank for no particular reason.
