Student activists lay siege to principal's office
DH News Service, Shidlaghatta:
Students backed by Akhila Bharata Vidyarthi Parishat and Students' Federation of India lay siege on the principal's office in Shidlaghata demanding basic facilities and sufficient teaching staff.

Protest by the activists of SFI and ABVP taluk unit turned intense on Friday, with the protesters laying siege on the principal’s office, in Shidlaghatta.

The students, clad in black clothes symbolising their protest, were backed by the Akhila Bharata Vidyarthi Parishat along with the Students’ Federation of India in their protest demanding basic facilities and sufficient teaching staff.

Tension

Tension prevailed for a while when the clash broke out between the agitators and the police.

The students said that they would not leave the office till the legislator came. However, the police insisted on vacating the office and continue the protest outside the premises of the college.  Sub Inspector Munikrishna tried to persuade the protesters to withdraw, but in vain.

Tahasildar Reshma Tahasina visited the ABVP led group and assured of providing basic facilities as soon as possible.

BJP district Yuva Morcha President C V Lokesh, who visited the spot at the same time, said, he will bring the issue to the government’s notice in order to meet their demands immediately. At this point, they withdrew the protest.
However, the SFI led  group continued the protest till the legislator arrived on the scene.

Legislator S Munishamappa said, Rs 1.5 crore has been sanctioned for the development of the college and works will be launched in a couple of days.

He said, that the works were delayed due to contract problem and not because of their negligence. He told the students that the teachers for the vacant posts will be appointed after the local body elections.

However, he said, withholding the transfer of the lecturers can be planned. With this, the protesters concluded their three-day protest.
