Rail roko on Sunday
DH News Service, Turuvekere:
The Committee fighting for the Upparahalli Shettihalli railway over bridge have threatened to stage a rail roko protest on September 9.

The members of the Committee fighting for the Upparahalli Shettihalli railway over bridge have threatened to stage a rail roko protest on September 9.

The honourary president of the committee N Satyanarayana, president B S Raveesh, Secretary K V Prakash and Treasurer T Pashupathi have said that they would resort to the protest at 11.30 am.

The protest will be held in the presence of Dr Shivananda Shivacharya Swamiji, Fr P V G Kumar and Syed Ghousepeer Sha Khadri Hayat, they said.

“The minister Shivanna has been giving false promises, whenever there was a protest. He has not fulfiled the dreams of the people of this region,” they said.

Criticised

Criticising the minister’s statement that the committee is unnecessarily resorting to the protest, the office bearers said “the minister had promised to complete the work in three months from January 2007. Although nine months have passed since, nothing has changed,” they alleged.

None of the works related to this project have taken off, they said.

The committee members have requested the public to participate in the protest in large numbers. Nrupatunga Layout Residents’ Welfare Association has extended its unconditional support to the proposed rail roko protest.
