There was poor response for the KERC public hearing on the proposed hike in the power tariff, held at Zilla Panchayat hall on Friday.
Five members brought the problems to the notice of KERC Chairman K C Pandey. Flaying the proposed hike in power tariff, Subrahmanya said “it is not a wise decision to revise the tariff rate. In the interest of the consumers, there should be a reduction in the rate of the power.”
He said “reason for the hike in power tariff should be made known to the public. Though all the dams are overflowing in the State, power is supplied only 8 hours in a day in the district. Metres have not been installed for Kuteera Jyothi and Bhagya Jyothi.
In some places, metres are not functioning, but the consumers get the bill promptly.” Narasimharajapura Pum-pset Balakedarara Sangha Secretary Basavaraj alleged that power cuts are imposed without bringing the matter to the notice of the consumers.
Mr Pandey directed MESCOM Shimoga division Manager to complete the process of providing electricity under Kuteera Jyothi and Bhagya Jyothi yojane to all the beneficiaries within four months.
