“Ladies and gentlemen. Kindly fasten your seatbelt. We will be taking off shortly to idiot land. You are requested to kindly leave behind logic, sense and your brains. We hope you enjoy the ride"
While most Bollywood comedies should be screened with the above statutory warning, this ride was actually quite a bit of fun!
Dhamaal never meant to challenge E=mc2. It is about two hours of masti that does not tax your grey cells and does very well. With some really funny one liners, the first half has your stomach cramping up. The casting is brilliant, with the four goofy conmen (Warsi, Jaffery, Deshmukh, Choudhary) sharing an amazing camaradarie. Ritiesh Deshmukh even manages to outshine Arshad Warsi in quite a few scenes and his take on Sajeev Kumar is quite riot. And to give the film that extra zing, add veteran actors like Asrani and Suhasini Mulay and you have recipe for a laughathon. Dutt meanwhile, has done this dance a million times before so brings nothing new to it. Indra Kumar shouldn’t have worried about the verdict.
The second half however is a let down, when the makers get carried away with the jokes and stretch them to breaking point. Indra Kumar and his writers had a one point agend of making the auditorium have fun and they get it right most of the times.
This movie is total paisa wasool and is just what the doctor ordered after a long week with a boss from hell.
