A Congress MP from Haryana had to face an embarrassing situation when local residents stormed the rest house he was staying in near Narwana town of Haryana on Thursday night.
While the group of protestors claimed that the MP, Atma Singh Gill, was closeted with two young girls and suspected his motives, the police denied it saying they were MP’s relatives.
The sub-divisional magistrate of Narwana and senior police officials landed at the rest house after the protestors barricaded the rest house where the MP had checked-in on Thursday.
They got the room opened where Gill was present with two girls.
Gill claimed the women were his relatives including a daughter-in-law who lived in a nearby village.
“I was coming from Chandigarh and going to Sirsa, so she accompanied me,” he said.
The district police chief of Jind, J S Lamba, dismissed allegations of wrongdoing on the part of the MP. He said the police had rushed to the rest house after information that a large crowd had surrounded the rest house after finding certain people under suspicious circumstances.
“However, the crowd dispersed after getting convinced that the MP was accompanied by his relatives,” Lamba claimed.
Gill and the two women were taken away by the police through the backdoor of the rest house. The police have not registered any case.
