Constitution of Beary Sahitya Academy opposed
Bangalore, dhns: Noted scholar Dr M Chidananda Murthy on Friday opposed the suggestion of Kannada and Culture minister H S Mahadeva Prasad to constitute a Beary Sahitya Academy.
Speaking to reporters, he said any language getting an academic status should be mature and have a long and solid literary tradition. If this becomes a reality, then languages like Banjara will also demand for the same, he said.
He alleged that the standards of the Kannada Sahitya Parishath had come down after Chandrashekhar Patil (Champa) took over as president of the parishath. Literary discussions, symposia and special lectures are not organised in a serious manner, he alleged.
Dr Murthy said that he was upset to see the developments that took place while selecting the president for Moodabidri Kannada literary meet. “Though I had made it clear that I would not become the president of the meet, Champa wrote in his paper that I was an aspirant to chair the meet,” he said.
