Talent and qualification alone will be considered as the yardstick for giving tickets to the candidates from the party, to the CMC and the local body elections, said Congress party District Elections Observer and Legislator V Somanna, at a press conference on Saturday.
Addressing the party candidates meet he said that the local bodies understood the pulse of the people better than any other organisations. Thus, it is not possible for the candidates to win the elections only with the power of the money, he observed. As per the directions of KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge, transperancy will be maintained while issuing tickets to the party candidates. The number of aspirants to compete in the elections from the Congress party is as usual high.
Also, there is some kind of a confusion. However, the confusions will be cleared after elaborate discussions with the senior party persons. Only those candidates, who have got greater consensus will be chosen for the wards, to compete in the elections. The Congress party will be victorious in all the local bodies in the district including the Tumkur CMC, informed Mr Somanna.
No interference
The KPCC will not interfere in any aspect of the local body elections. Moreover, it will also not issue tickets buckling under any pressure. Commitment to the party and talent will be the only criteria that will be considered while issuing the tickets. The youth will be provided with more opportunities, he added.
The general public will be informed about the various programmes undertaken by the party. in providing better infrastructure facilities, in the coming few days, explained Mr Somanna.
The Central government in order to strengthen the local bodies has devised several schemes and has also etched out plans to provide money for the same. The Congress party has decided to work towards the comprehensive development of the district by providing more funds to Tumkur, which is nearer to Bangalore and also to Tiptur, Sira and other CMCs.
There are 35 wards in the Tumkur district and so far 185 applications have been submitted, informed District Congress President Shafi Ahmed.
