Delhi clash with Sikhs:curfew clamped
NEW DELHI, Sept 8
Curfew from 9:30 tonight to 5 am tomorrow was clamped down on Jangpura and Bhogal, two residential colonies in south New Delhi this evening following exchange of brickbats between supporters of the “Save Hindi” movement in the Punjab and a group of Sikhs.
A Magistrate, the Superintendent of Police New Delhi over a dozen constables and some members of the rival groups were reported to have received injuries due to stone-throwing.
Abandon NATO or Perish: Soviet warns W Germany
MOSCOW, Sept 8
Russia has told West Germany she faces the alternative of renouncing NATO policy and abandoning atomic war preparations of pursuing her present policy “fraught with grave danger.”
The statement is contained in a Note to West Germany handed over in Moscow yesterday by the Soviet Foreign Minister, Mr Andrei Gromokyo, according to the Soviet news agency.
The Note to the Soviet Government’s reply to a memorandum from the West Germany government of May 24.

State will go to polls in Feb-Mar: CM
GULBARGA, Sept. 8.
Elections to the State Assembly will be held during February-March next year along with Andhra Pradesh and Kashmir that are scheduled to go to the polls.
Chief Minister Gundu Rao announced this here today at a Congress workers’ meeting attended by the taluk, block and district level Congress workers.
Mr Rao said the Opposition Party leaders whenever they visited that State were predicting the fall of the government but each time it had survived.
