The protesters obstructed the examination, alleging that youths from Bihar were getting more opportunities, at the expense of candidates from Karnataka. Sources said the exam was scheduled to be held at various centres across the State, including SJP College, where around 200 candidates were to take up the exam. As soon as the exam began at 9 am, around 20 KRV members (from the Narayana Gowda faction), led by Devraj and Basavaraj, stormed into the exam hall and stopped the candidates from taking up the exam.
Agitated applicants came out of the hall. Later, RRB officials brought all the candidates back to the hall and the exam was conducted, after a delay of around two hours.
After the half-an-hour-long drama at the hall, the KRV members staged dharna outside the hall, raising slogans against the Railway Minister and the RRB. It was learnt that only eight candidates out of the 170 candidates who turned up for the exam were from Karnataka, while a majority of applicants were from north India, mainly from Bihar. An applicant from Karnataka said the RRB released advertisements on the exam only in a national English daily, but not in any local or regional newspaper.
Bangalore RRB Member-Secretary N Mohan said the RRB staff had lodged a formal complaint to the local police against the agitators.
