CCB sleuths raided more than half a dozen shops around Gandhinagar on Saturday and seized fake electronic gadgets estimated at Rs 20 lakh.
According to sources, CCB sleuths reportedly broke open the locks to enter the shops. Apart from fake handsets, they also seized cash boxes and pirated software. The raid was conducted following a complaint by a leading handset manufacturing company. The officials were in plain clothes. However, when the shop owners tried to lodge a complaint against the raids at the Police Commissioner’s office, the officials allegedly refused register a complaint.
Vehicles seized
Upparpet police arrested two persons on charges of two-wheelers theft and recovered five bikes worth Rs 1.5 lakh. The accused Shekhar alias Ramaraj (55), resident of Jayanagar and Vajid (27), from Tirupattur taluk in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu, used to drive away bikes from parking lots and those parked in front of houses, using duplicate keys. They used to sell them in Tirupattur. The police arrested them in Gandhinagar when they were trying to sell a stolen bike.
Chain snatching
A woman was relieved of her gold chain worth Rs 35,000 on Friday night in Basavanagudi police limits. According to police, the incident occurred on Model House Road when the victim, Uma Dayashankar (51) was returning home. An unidentified person, who came on a bike, accosted her and snatched away her chain and absconded.
Stabbed to death
A 29-year-old was stabbed to death by unidentified persons in Kadugodi police limits on Friday. The deceased, Vasu (29), is a resident of Siddarthnagar. Reason for Vasu’s murder is not known.
According to police, Vasu ran a paan shop near SRS Bar in Siddarthnagar. He was disappointed when BBMP officials removed his shop to clear encroachments a few days back.
Police suspect some of his friends might have eliminated him. He was stabbed several times on his chest. The body has been kept in Vaidehi Hospital.
