Delivering the keynote address during the ‘Central Excise Day’ in Bangalore on Monday, Mr Subhas Chander said that the government had set a target of Rs 4,810 crore through Excise duty and another Rs 3,400 crore through Service Taxes from Karnataka.
“Recently, the government has also asked to collect an additional Rs 200 crore from Excise duty and another Rs 250 crore from Service Tax. So far, we are right on track and have worked out a strategy to mop up additional target also. By March end, we will exceed both the targets,’’ he said.
Stating that stagnation of cadre and staff shortage would be the potential future challenges to department, Mr Subhas Chander said that he had asked the officials to prepare the DPC at all levels for promotions.
The Founder of Prasanna Trust Swamy Sukhabodhananda said that fear was the greatest stress, which ruined quality of life. “Fear should be transformed into trust to improve quality of life. High level of stress is causing drug addiction among the youth and India has healthy de-stressing mechanism like yoga, pranayama,’’ he said.
In a lighter vein, Swamy Sukhbodhananda said that both paying and avoiding tax were forms of fear.
